At a glance

Render OVHcloud VPS
Best for Apps and APIs that want git-push deploys with a fixed, understandable instance price. Traffic-heavy European projects that want unmetered bandwidth and an included IPv4 at rock-bottom prices.
How deploys work Connect the Git repo; Render builds and deploys on push, with Docker support and instant rollbacks. You get root on a bare server: pick a distro or an app image (Docker, WordPress, cPanel) and set everything up yourself.
The tradeoff The workspace-plus-services model means several line items, and bandwidth overage is pricey. Entirely self-managed, headline prices need a commitment, and support below premium tiers is slow.
Free tier Hobby workspace: $0 — static sites, free web services (0.1 CPU, 512 MB), a 30-day free Postgres, a 25 MB free key-value store, 5 GB bandwidth, 500 build minutes, 1 seat. None

Watch out for

Render

  • Costs assemble from parts: per-service compute, plus the workspace plan, plus bandwidth overages. The advertised $7 is rarely the whole bill.
  • The free Hobby workspace includes only 5 GB of bandwidth; overage bills at $0.15/GB, among the highest rates here.
  • The $7 Starter instance is small: half a CPU and 512 MB of RAM.

OVHcloud

  • The advertised prices are "from" prices tied to the longest commitment — rolling month-to-month costs more.
  • Traffic is unlimited in Europe and North America only; Asia-Pacific locations have 500 GB – 3 TB quotas, then throttle to 10 Mbps.
  • Standard-tier support is slow and famously unhelpful for anything OS-level — you are expected to manage the server yourself.
  • OVHcloud US is a separate legal entity with its own accounts — easy to sign up in the wrong portal.
