Hetzner is the price-performance reference for European hosting: its EU servers include 20 TB of outbound traffic, twenty times what US-based providers bundle. Our checked dataset covers the dedicated-CPU CCX line; Hetzner also sells cheaper shared-CPU plans we have not verified yet.

Good to know

  • US locations include only 1–2 TB of traffic versus 20 TB in the EU — the famous value is a European value.
  • A public IPv4 address costs €0.50/month extra; only IPv6 is free.
  • Servers bill until deleted, even while powered off.
  • Cheaper shared-CPU (CX) plans exist but are not yet in our checked dataset.

Hetzner Cloud

Best for
European projects that need serious compute or move a lot of traffic.
How deploys work
You get root on a bare server: bring your own setup, or use one-click apps like Docker and WordPress.
The tradeoff
Self-managed like any VPS, and the bandwidth advantage mostly applies to EU locations.

Why pick it

  • Unmatched price-performance: dedicated CPUs for the price of shared ones elsewhere.
  • 20 TB of included traffic in the EU — twenty times the US-provider norm.
  • Traffic overage at €1/TB, orders of magnitude cheaper than anyone here.
  • Full root access on clean, fast hardware.

Why look elsewhere

  • Entirely self-managed: no deploy pipeline, no managed database, no platform anything.
  • The famous value is a European value — US locations include only 1–2 TB of traffic.
  • IPv4 costs €0.50/month extra, and servers bill until deleted.
  • Account verification for new customers can be strict and slow.

What developers say

First-person reports from the past three years, drawn from public discussions and independent write-ups. These are individual experiences, not our ratings; open the original source for its workload and full context. Critical reports include a follow-up check so you can see whether the problem was fixed, partly addressed, remains current, or has no public resolution.

Deploy workflow

Deploy from Git push Connect a repository and every push deploys automatically. No No deploy pipeline — bring your own CI or scripts.
Preview deploys Each branch or pull request gets its own temporary URL. No Nothing built in.
Official CLI A maintained command-line tool for deploys and management. Yes hcloud CLI manages servers, networks, and snapshots.
Instant rollbacks Revert to a previous deploy without rebuilding. Partial Snapshots and paid backups restore machines; no deploy-level rollback.

Platform

Custom domains + HTTPS Bring your own domain with TLS certificates handled. Yes Point DNS at the server; TLS is yours via certbot or a proxy.
Built-in CDN / edge network Static assets served from locations near your visitors. No No CDN product — put Cloudflare in front if needed.
Serverless functions Run backend code without managing a server process. No Not a VPS feature.
Docker containers Deploy your own container image. Yes Docker CE one-click app or install it yourself.
SSH / shell access Open a shell on the machine running your app. Yes Full root SSH.
EU hosting region Run the app itself in a European data center. Yes Germany and Finland are the home turf — this is where the value is.

Runtime & operations

Automatic scaling Capacity grows with traffic without manual resizing. No Manual resizing or manual fleet management.
Scale to zero Costs stop (or pause) when nobody is using the app. No Servers bill until deleted, even powered off.
Scheduled jobs Run code on a schedule without an external trigger. Yes Classic cron on the box.
Managed database A database the provider runs, backs up, and updates. No No managed database product — self-host or go external.
Logs & metrics built in See what the app is doing without wiring up third parties. Partial Basic server graphs in the console; app-level monitoring is yours.
